Community Presbyterian Preschool Curriculum

Preschool

Community Presbyterian is a developmental preschool.  This means that we teach the whole child (cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual) in an age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate manner.  We teach in a fun way with lots of hands-on opportunities for exploration.

Preschool is a time for children to begin to learn social skills in a group of their peers and to learn academic skills which become the foundation for future learning.  Children are introduced to pre-reading and pre-math skills in a variety of ways.

Pre-Kindergarten  (the year before Kindergarten)

Our pre-kindergarten curriculum includes pre-reading skill builders such as phonemic awareness, tracing, learning to print using Handwriting Without Tears, literature, and journaling as well as pre-math skill builders such as 1-to-1 number correspondence, matching, sequencing, patterning.  We also include science, art, sensory, social studies, music and movement, blocks and construction, dramatic play, gardening, cooking, chapel, and other activities to prepare our children for a smooth transition into kindergarten.

Kindergarten

It is almost impossible to find a kindergarten class which is limited to 18 students with two teachers within our school district.  But here at Community Presbyterian Preschool & Kindergarten we know the value of individualized attention, small-group learning, and small class sizes.  Our lead teacher holds a California Multiple Subject Credential.

Enrichment

What child doesn’t enjoy ooey, gooey science experiments, art projects, and music and movement?  In our Enrichment class children have the opportunity to conduct science experiments, learn to hypothesize about the potential outcome of an experiment and then journal their findings (using words and/or pictures).   This class offers a large variety of scientific topics in i.e., sensory, electricity, properties of water and air, weather, to name just a few.  The children also explore art using many mediums such as clay, plaster of Paris, tempura paint, water colors, chalk, paper, fabric, wood etc.  The children learn rhythm and timing of musical notes in fun songs using movements.

Our Enrichment class is open to Kindergarteners and children who are at least four years of age.
