Community Presbyterian Church - Mission Projects
January - SouperBowl of Caring
The Super Bowl is held in early February each year and we begin collecting any and all kinds of canned soup.
Cans or cases of soup are brought to the narthex to build our collection.
Soup is given to Family Assistance Ministries to aide in their program to assist needy families.
Our goal is usually around 1000 cans in partnership with our Preschool & Kindergarten.
What will the total be in 2016 – make it huge!
December- Angel Tree
The angel tree gift angels, created and decorated by Community Presbyterian Church presschool students, are placed on the tree in the
Narthex. We help less fortunate children smile by taking an angel from the tree, buying the
appropriate sex/age gift and returning it unwrapped back under the Angel Tree by around mid December with the Angel label attached. Ages 13 - 17 appreciate a gift card. They also ask that games or puzzles be avoided.
Family Assistance Ministries Christmas party for the children is always held shortly thereafter, so there is just a short time to buy the child’s gift before the FAM party. Just follow the instructions on the flyer to help make a joyous Christmas party for a child.
It is the end of October already! All Saints’ Day is just around the corner, then it is time to be seriously thinking of Thanksgiving. This day is not just about turkey and your special cranberry sauce; it is also about giving thanks to God and of sharing his amazing bounty. We at CPC share our Thanksgiving by helping FAM (Family Assistance Ministries) provide a special meal for needy folks.
This is the way it works. Remember? Local grocers donate the turkeys to FAM and we help by providing the trimmings. Large brown grocery bags are handed out on a Sunday in November and on it is stapled a suggested list of items to complete a Thanksgiving dinner. Choose as many of these as you wish and bring to church Sunday. If you need a bag they are always available in the Narthex.
FAM needs time to sort and separate the foods to make a balanced meal so the last day to bring your gift to church will be is always usually the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
FAM is grateful for the help with the food and we are blessed to be the helpers.
October - Heifer International
Our Preschool launches their year of mission projects by supporting Heifer International.
Heifer International is a nonprofit organization working to end hunger and poverty and care for the Earth.
We ask our congregation to join with us in this project as we try to raise $500.00 to purchase a heifer. However, any amount is helpful -- $20.00 for chicks, $30.00 for honey bees, etc. We will collect contributions through the month of October.
September - Presbyterian Women Mission Project:
There is an overwhelming demand in India for English Bibles and Christian literature, including the following:
Bibles and Bible Studies
Christian classics and fiction
Children’s Bibles and Bible Story books.
Your used Bibles and Christian literature will help fund training, children’s church school, literacy programs, publication and distribution of Bibles in Indian languages, health classes and vocational skills.
Contributiions of these items are usually made in mid September and brought to Sue’s Porch in the rear of the CPC campus.
September - Back-to-School Supplies
San Juan Elementary and Kinoshita Elementary Schools
The Deacons are continuing with the mission activity to once again seek Congregational support of this vital school supplies drive for two of our local schools.
Though we do not have direct control over State funding for education, we do have the ability to help our local San Juan and Kinoshita Elementary Schools!
Teachers often augment their classroom supplies out of their own pockets and many students are not able to purchase their needed supplies.
Back-to-School bags with an attached supply list will be available in the Narthex beginning in early August. The final collection date for your gifts is usually towards the end of August, which will enable us to deliver these supplies by the 1st week of school.
