Lenten Season Classes for Lent

Ash WednesdayLent is a time of reflection and introspection, beginning with Ash Wednesday when Christians mark the coming experiences of Christ leading up to his crucifixion on the Thursday before Easter.

Community Presbyterian Church of San Juan Capistrano is offering an Ash Wednesday Service on March 1st and a Lenten Series of interactive weekly classes beginning on Wednesday, March 8th.

Do you ever think about what prayer is or could be for you?  What does one pray about? Where do you pray?  What is your prayer process?

The first of the classes offers participative discussion of that inward journey of spiritual introspection.

What about gratitude? Are we grateful?  What are we grateful for?  How do we show it? Is your heart open to receiving and giving - and what does that mean in today's world?

This class digs deep into how we look at and employ gratitude.

How does meditative yoga fit in?

A certified Yoga instructor will lead this restorative class to facilitate improved meditation and daily life, increased energy and release.

Have you ever walked a labyrinth?  Have you prayed your way out?

This ancient symbol combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral as a symbol of one's search for meaning and guidance.  In this class, the labyrinth represents a journey to the center and then back out into the world.

Are you ready to enter the world of meditative art?

Led by a "Meet the Masters" art teacher, join this class to learn to meditate on five of the Stations of the Cross, starting with Falling, followed by Veronica's Veil, the Crucifixion, the Tomb and the Resurrection.

Classes are presented from 6-8PM and include a light meal.  Donations of $5 are suggested to cover food costs.  The schedule is as follows;

  • March 1— Ash Wednesday, Imposition of Ashes
  • March 8 — Spiritual Introspection: enriching your prayer life
  • March 15 — An evening of gratitude
  • March 22 — Meditative Yoga (chair yoga or you may bring your own mat)
  • March 29—Walk the labyrinth by candlelight
  • April 5 — Meditative art (led by a certified Meet the Masters art teacher)
